OFTEC employee completes marathon hike for Macmillan Cancer Support

Funds raised will help Macmillan Cancer Support continue providing essential medical, practical and emotional support to people affected by cancer.

An OFTEC employee has raised more than £800 for Macmillan Cancer Support after completing a challenging 26.2-mile marathon hike along the Thames Valley.

The fundraising challenge saw OFTEC’s Marketing and Communications Manager, Sally Buist, walk from Windsor Racecourse to Henley-on-Thames, following the scenic Thames Path as part of a professionally organised endurance event.

Initially setting a fundraising target of £300, support from family, friends, and colleagues helped to more than double the amount raised, with donations reaching £800.

Speaking after completing the hike, Sally said: “I’m genuinely blown away by the support and generosity shown by everyone who donated. I originally set myself a target of £300, so to have raised more than double that amount is incredible, especially for such an important cause.

“Macmillan provides invaluable support to people living with cancer and their families. Having seen first-hand the difference their nurses and support services have made to several members of my own family in recent years, this felt like a small way of giving something back and saying thank you.”
