Filling out documentation: Who’s responsible?

As an OFTEC registered technician, there may well be a time when you are going to be asked to install and connect up a fuel supply line to either a newly installed fuel storage tank or an appliance where the flue and/or wet side connections have been installed by someone else.

In such situations, who should be filling out what documentation? The answer ultimately comes down to what was agreed in the scheduled contract of works.

Let’s looks at one of the examples given above.

You have been asked to install and connect a new fuel supply line to an appliance where the flue has been installed as well as being connected to the wet side. As the installing technician of the fuel supply line, you would need to fill out a CD/10 or CD/10T, filling out only the relevant section (in this example, section 2) and either putting a line through the other non-relevant sections or leaving them blank.

The person who installed the appliance, flue, and wet side should be filling out a CD/10 for the work in which they have undertaken. Whoever has been contracted to carry out the commissioning upon the completion of the installation work would then be issuing the CD/11.

There could also be a time when you are asked to commission an appliance installed by another person.

This is permissible, but you would only be required to fill out the CD/11 form upon the completion of the commissioning. As commissioning is part of the installation work, it would be the installers responsibility to complete the CD/10 and carry out the notification of the appliance.

What about filling out paperwork and notifying an installation installed by someone else, such as a non-registered technician?

OFTEC’s advice is not to complete paperwork or sign off work for others; doing so will likely make you responsible for that installation and for any costs or liabilities associated with any future defects or incidents.
